The Man In The Glass

January 25, 2010

I wish I knew who to give credit to for this poem, but I do not. However, it is a wonderful message to those of us who have seeked approval from others most of our lives. What matters is loving yourself and God! Loving others comes after getting this point, not before. I read this to my son Davis often because he is such a great athlete. He loves the poem! He gets the message!

The Man In the Glass

When you reach your goal in the world of sports and you’ve played the big game that day,
just go to the mirror and look at yourself and see what the man has to say.

For it isn’t your family or friends or the coaches judgment that you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts in your life is the one staring at your from the glass.

You may be lucky and play in the big game, thinking you’re a wonderful guy,
but the man in the glass says you’re only a bum, if you can’t look him straight in the eye.

He’s the fellow to please, never mind all the rest, because he’s with you clear to the end,
and you have passed your most difficult test, if the man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool all of the world down the pathway of years, and get pats on the back as you pass,
but your only reward will be remorse and regret, if you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

Take time to look in the mirror today. Are you living the life that you thought you would? If not, THEN CHANGE IT!
Learn how to love yourself!
